Pelvic Floor

The Physio Studio is excited to announce that we are now offering Pelvic Health Physiotherapy!

Why see a pelvic health physiotherapist?

Do you feel like you have to run to the bathroom all the time?? Do you pee when you run, laugh, cough, or sneeze? Do you ever feel a heaviness in your pelvis as if something inside is going to fall out? Do you have lower back or pelvic pain that isn’t going away and you feel like you’ve tried everything to help?

These are all GREAT reasons to see a pelvic health physio!

We can help with issues such as:

  • Bladder incontinence
  • Constipation
  • Unrelenting lower back or pelvic pain
  • Pelvic organ prolapse
  • And so much more!
  • What is the pelvic floor?

The pelvic floor is a group of muscles that span the base of the pelvis like a hammock or sling and provide support to those organs that sit above them within the pelvic girdle. In particular, the pelvic floor muscles support the bladder, uterus, prostate, and rectum. They also play a crucial role in continence and sexual function as they wrap around the urethra, rectum, and vagina.

Why have an internal exam with a trained pelvic health physiotherapist?

An internal exam is considered the gold standard for the assessment of the pelvic floor muscles. Being able to feel these muscles directly through an internal exam allows a trained therapist to determine if the muscles are weak (hypotonic), too tight (hypertonic), or a combination of the two.
